Sustainable Income Generation in Africa

Overview

Pilot Light and The Body Agency Collective are collaborating to help people learn to save and get access to capital for loans to start and support businesses. This in turn, increases incomes in impoverished communities. When individuals can support themselves, they can establish a sustainable and thriving community for generations to come.

The Facts

Employment prospects for many people on the continent have been deteriorating for years. Only a small share of the working population are wage earners; most are informally employed.  Trends such as urbanization, the climate crisis, digitalization and population growth, but also the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, aggravate the employment crisis and increase the existing inequality.

Pilot Light

Pilot Light’s mission is to improve the quality of life for people living in extreme poverty, in Africa, through sustainable income and economic self-sufficiency.

Across Rwanda and Uganda, they currently support 296 Village Savings & Loans Association groups, which include 8847 individuals. Lasting self-sufficiency, secure interdependent communities, and self-determination are all things they strive to provide through their work.
